Main Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate art lessons for kindergarten and primary year groups, aligned with VAS curriculum expectations and the Early Years Foundation principles where applicable.
Create a creative, safe, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages exploration, experimentation with materials, and development of fine motor and visual literacy skills.
Use a broad range of media, techniques and processes (drawing, painting, collage, clay, digital art) to develop pupils’ artistic skills and confidence.
Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of learners with diverse abilities and backgrounds; use formative assessment to inform planning and provide constructive feedback.
Plan and assess learning outcomes, maintain accurate records of pupil progress, and report effectively to parents and carers regarding attainment and wellbeing.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, phase leaders and specialist staff to integrate art into broader learning themes and cross-curricular projects.
Contribute to school life by leading or supporting creative events, displays, exhibitions and extra-curricular clubs for young learners.
Ensure high standards of health and safety when using tools and materials; maintain an organised and well-resourced art area suited to early years and primary pupils.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Early Years and Primary Expertise: Demonstrable experience teaching art to kindergarten and primary-aged children using play-based and developmentally-appropriate approaches.
Creative Teaching Skills: Ability to design engaging sequences of lessons that develop skills, creativity and visual language across year groups.
Assessment and Differentiation: Skilled in using formative assessment and differentiation strategies to support a range of learners.
Teamwork and Communication: Strong collaborator who builds positive relationships with students, families and colleagues in a multicultural setting.
Personal and Professional Qualities
Child-Centred Approach: Patient, nurturing and responsive to the emotional and developmental needs of young children.
Cultural Sensitivity: Respectful and adaptable when working within an international school community.

Essential Criteria
Bachelor’s degree in Art, Early Years Education, Primary Education with a specialism in Art, or equivalent.
Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or international equivalent) or relevant early years accreditation.
Minimum two years’ recent classroom experience teaching art to kindergarten and/or primary-aged pupils.
Strong classroom management skills and a clear understanding of safeguarding and health & safety requirements for young children.
